THE WHAT? Indonesia’s palm oil producers are seeking to diversify following Trump’s 32 percent tariffs on imports from the country. The world’s biggest palm oil supplier is looking to Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe to dampen the impact.
THE DETAILS According to a report published by France24 quoting data from the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), Indonesia shipped 2.5 million tons of palm oil to the US in 2023, 89 percent of the country’s palm oil supply. The US is the world’s fourth-largest importer of palm oil.
THE WHY? Despite the 90-days pause on the charges ushered in by the US President, Eddy Martono, Chairman of GAPKI told France24 that market diversification ‘must be done’.
