THE WHAT? A US judge has rejected a request to dismiss three proposed class action lawsuits which allege that fragrance manufacturers IFF, Firmenich, Symrise and Givaudan engaged in conspiring to increase prices of cosmetics ingredients.

THE DETAILS According to a report published by Reuters, the lawsuits follow similar allegations being investigated by the European Union’s antitrust authority. The fragrance companies in question argued that the plaintiffs have not produced adequate evidence of price-fixing and deny any wrongdoing. US District Judge, William Martini rejected their claims.

THE WHY? Givaudan, Symrise and IFF did not immediately respond to requests for comment when contacted by Reuters. DSM-Firmenich said in a statement that it was cooperating with previously disclosed investigations being conducted by competition regulators in the EU and US, per Reuters.
