Amazon Fresh has scrapped its Richmond store just over three years since its opening, reducing the retailer’s UK grocery stores to 19 sites.
The shop, which launched in December 2021 on The Quadrant, next to Richmond station, marked Amazon’s 10th Fresh site in the UK.
Speaking to The Grocer, an Amazon spokesperson said: “Certain store locations work better than others, and after an assessment of our offering we’ve decided to close our Amazon Fresh store in Richmond.
“Customers in the area can continue to shop from a wide selection of grocery products at Amazon.co.uk with same-day delivery options, or from our other Amazon Fresh stores across London.”
She added: “We remain committed to Amazon Fresh, and will continue to refine our portfolio of stores as we learn which locations and features resonate most with customers.”
It comes after the ecommerce giant axed three of its Fresh stores in 2023, based across Wandsworth, Ealing Broadway and East Sheen.
In June, Amazon introduced deliveries to all its shoppers in eligible cities across the UK and launched member pricing.
The move meant customers in over 100 towns and cities nationwide could receive groceries delivered by the ecommerce giant from its own Fresh stores, Morrisons, Co-op and Iceland.
