CTPA releases statement as Trump slaps tariffs on UK cosmetics

THE WHAT? The CTPA has released a statement following the imposition of tariffs on UK cosmetics by President Trump. The UK exported some £360 million worth of beauty products to the US in 2024, making America Britain’s biggest trading partner outside the European Union.

THE DETAILS While the UK will be subject to additional 10 percent tariff rates, supply chains have become increasingly global and are tied to both the EU, which is subject to higher rates at 20 percent, and China at 34 percent, for example. The CTPA is working to clarify how UK companies will be affected by this challenge.

THE WHY? The imposition of tariffs will affect the trading relationship between the two nations, the CTPA said, and it supports any approach from the UK government that looks to secure free trade for cosmetics and personal care products.
