Firms are afraid that if you’re out there and perceived as being anti-administration, that could hurt your firm. The administration is viewed as very punitive and retributive.
— A senior lawyer at a large law firm, who was granted anonymity to speak candidly with Politico, commenting on the attacks the Trump administration has made against the lawyers and law firms the president perceives as his political enemies. “They’re just scared of retribution,” said a senior lawyer at another Biglaw firm. To date, Trump has targeted Covington Burling, Perkins Coie, and Paul Weiss with broad executive orders, and he has since targeted 20 additional leading law firms over their DEI policies.
