Ikea and Ocado are among the growing list of retailers ordering their employees to work from home less.

The Swedish furniture giant has informed head office staff that from September they will be required to work 12 days per month on-site, up from its previous policy of just eight.

Ikea employees based in the UK and Ireland are required to spend their time in the office, in-stores or with agency partners, Retail Week reported.

A spokesperson for the retailer said: “From September, we’ll update our hybrid working policy to reflect the value of in-person collaboration.



“We’ll move from eight days a month in our head office to include an additional four days, which can be from another Ikea location.

“This shift supports our belief that shared spaces strengthen our culture, spark creativity, and empower us to thrive together – while preserving the flexibility our co-workers value.”

Similarly, Ocado has updated its hybrid working policy for head office staff from one day in the office a week to at least three days.

It comes as other retailers including Boots and Morrisons have mandated that employees spend five days a week in the office.
