THE WHAT? Hainan’s Department of Commerce has announced that it will issue consumption vouchers worth more than CNY200 million in a bid to stimulate spend in duty free stores. The incentive program will run throughout the first quarter.
THE DETAILS According to a report published by The Moodie Davitt Report, quoting Hainan Daily, the vouchers will offer tiered discounts based on total spend, and can be used at the Chinese province’s 12 offshore duty-free locations.
THE WHY? By mid-February, the vouchers had driven nearly CNY2 billion in spending; the goal is to boost China’s duty free sector, which has yet to recover its pre-pandemic vim.
