EU to Launch Energy & Raw Materials Platform to Support Industrial Supply Chains

THE WHAT?  The European Commission is launching the EU Energy & Raw Materials Platform on 2 July 2025 to support European industry in sourcing energy products and raw materials. The initiative is designed to strengthen supply security, encourage diversification, and support decarbonisation across sectors.

THE DETAILS The platform’s first operational mechanism will focus on hydrogen and its derivatives—ammonia, methanol, and eSAF—covering both renewable and low-carbon sources. Registrations open on the launch date, with the first supply-demand matching round scheduled for September 2025. The platform will collect voluntary market data, connect buyers and sellers, inform infrastructure planning, and display financial solutions in collaboration with public and private institutions. Modules for natural gas, biomethane, and raw materials will follow. While the initial focus is on energy products, future developments may affect sourcing for sectors such as cosmetics and personal care, particularly in relation to energy-intensive processes and raw material access.

The launch event is by invitation only and includes a keynote address by Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen, followed by a technical briefing from the Directorate-General for Energy.

THE WHY? The platform responds to the EU’s regulatory mandate to coordinate energy and raw material markets under the Hydrogen Bank framework through 2029. For manufacturers—including those in the cosmetics and personal care industry—this could support long-term supply chain planning, reduce exposure to market volatility, and align operations with EU climate goals.
