Deliveroo pulls in first annual profit as grocery sales climb

Deliveroo has delivered an annual profit for the first time, as grocery sales rose at the food delivery giant.

The brand’s posted a £3m profit for the year ended 31 December 2024, compared to its £32m loss in 2023.

Grocery hit 16% of the business’s group transaction value (GTV) during the second half, up from 13% during the same time last year.

The company noted grocery experienced strong double-digit growth as well as further contribution from mid-sized baskets costing between £30 – £60.

Deliveroo CEO and founder Will Shu said: “Over the past year, we have been relentlessly focused on making the Deliveroo experience even better. The robust results we’ve announced today, with our first full year profit and positive free cash flow as well as GTV growth across our verticals, demonstrate that our strategy is working.

“We continued to deliver value to consumers by incentivising partners to reduce mark-ups and by significantly enhancing our loyalty programme. Our dedication to making every order perfect is having a meaningful impact on consumer satisfaction, as reflected in our net promoter score.”

He added: “Whilst the consumer environment remains uncertain, I am confident that we can continue to deliver growth by focusing on the levers in our control: supporting our restaurant partners to meet untapped consumer demand around new occasions, expanding our grocery and retail offering, and continuously improving our CVP.”

In January, Deliveroo reported its orders and spending rose during its fourth quarter, driven by its retail and grocery partnerships.

Its number of orders in the UK and Ireland increased 5% to £43.1m over the period.
