Aldi is investing £67m into upgrading its existing store estate this year.

The discounter said it has spent almost £600m on improvements since 2017 and is moving on to the second stage of its store enhancement programme.

The initial upgrades focus on creating a better shopping experience for customers by providing more space for fresh, chilled, and food-to-go ranges, alongside simpler layouts, improved fixtures and energy efficient LED lighting.

The next phase of store enhancements will include additional in-store features such as improved bakery, and health and beauty fixtures for customers.

The stores will also benefit from CO2 refrigeration upgrades, which Aldi said contributes to an estimated reduction in carbon emissions equivalent to heating over 6,500 homes when the programme is complete.

Aldi UK managing director of national real estate Jonathan Neale said: “Aldi’s £67m investment is a major step forward in our commitment to delivering an even better shopping experience for our customers across Britain.

“Building on the success of our previous upgrades, we’re enhancing store layouts as part of our dedication to providing customers with more sustainable stores, convenience and an improved shopping experience nationwide.”

Alongside improving its existing estate, the retailer is also spending £650m on opening 30 new stores across Britain in 2025 in locations such as Fulham Broadway in London, Billericay in Essex, and Cheadle in Stoke-on-Trent.
