Former Fortnum & Mason chief executive Ewan Venters has joined Paul Smith as a non-executive director.

The fashion retailer said Venters will “add his experience and strategic insight to the development of one of Britain’s iconic brands” in the newly created role.

Venters most recently served as chief executive of contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth.

Prior to that, he was the boss of luxury department store Fortnum & Mason between 2012 and 2020 where he oversaw a period of “unparalleled success for the brand” and spearheaded an overhaul of the retailer’s ecommerce offering.

He also previously held roles at Selfridges and Sainsbury’s.

Sir Paul Smith, chairman and founder of the namesake brand, said: “Ewan is joining us at a pivotal moment for the company as we consider a number of key strategies to shape the future of our special brand.

“Ewan’s extensive experience in the retail, hospitality and cultural sectors will bring a welcome fresh perspective on what we do.”

Venters added: “This is a very exciting moment for the Paul Smith label, and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
