Uniqlo launches pop-up shop in Tate Modern

Uniqlo has teamed up with the Tate Modern to celebrate the gallery’s 25th birthday.

To celebrate the milestone, Tate Modern will hold a birthday weekender event in partnership with the clothing brand, while a new Uniqlo Tate Shop, art for all, will be open in the gallery during the summer.

The birthday weekender will comprise of a free festival of music, making and performance, running from 9 May to 12 May.

Visitors will see headline music acts, performances, talks, workshops, tours, and a host of free experiences.

Uniqlo parent company, Fast Retailing Co’s group senior executive officer Koji Yanai said: “We are honored and proud to strengthen our global partnership with Tate Modern during their 25th birthday celebrations.

“This deep relationship with one of the world’s greatest museums is an expression of the Uniqlo LifeWear philosophy of art for all.”

He added: “We look forward to welcoming customers into the first Uniqlo Tate shop art for all, where they can experience an in-store arts program alongside our LifeWear products.”

In honour of the birthday, Uniqlo will also launch a UTme! Tate range, consisting of a collection of T-shirts paying tribute to the international, modern and contemporary artworks housed in the museum’s collection displays over the years.

Marking their partnership, which began in 2016, a collaborative pop-up store, dubbed Uniqlo Tate Shop, will run from 5 May until 16 September.

The shop will feature popular Uniqlo services including a UTme! personalised T-shirt station and personalised embroidery, and will offer a limited edition Tate UTme! T-shirt collection alongside select Uniqlo products.

Additionally, a summer-long series of activities inspired by the retailer’s LifeWear philosophy of art for all and Tate Modern’s arts program will invite visitors into the store to take part in art-inspired workshops starting at the birthday weekender.

In 2021, Uniqlo marked its 20th UK anniversary with a series of local partnerships, special events and new store updates in London.

Highlights from the celebrations included a renewed partnership with Tate Modern to create ‘Uniqlo Tate Play’ a initiative offering families unique ways to get creative and playfully explore art together.
