THE WHAT? Amazon India has announced that it is cutting referral fees on items priced at less than ₹300 next month. The change will affect some 12 million products across the platform and is said to be the e-commerce giant’s highest ever reduction in seller costs.
THE DETAILS Currently, sellers pay Amazon a 2 to 4 percent commission on products sold, known as the ‘referral fee’. According to a report published by Inc 42, these charges will be eliminated across 135 product categories.
THE WHY? Inc42 reveals that the move is aimed at boosting seller growth on the platform and supporting hundreds of thousands of small businesses across the country.
Amit Nanda, Director, Selling Partner Services, Amazon India, told Inc42, “At Amazon India, we are committed to enabling the growth of all sellers because we strongly believe that our success lies in their success. By eliminating referral fees on crores of products and reducing shipping costs, we’re making it more lucrative for sellers to sell on Amazon.in.”
