Topshop has sparked fresh excitement among fans by hinting at a potential return to bricks-and-mortar retail on London’s iconic Oxford Street.
The popular fashion retailer shared a video on Instagram featuring London Mayor Sadiq Khan calling for the brand to make a comeback to the famous shopping destination.
In the video, Khan reminisces about his own Topshop shopping experiences, sharing fond memories of spending time outside the store and taking his daughters there.
He said: “I’d meet my mates outside Topshop, my daughters I used to take shopping at Topshop and I know every type of Topshop jean. Wouldn’t it be great to get Topshop back on Oxford Street?”
The clip has already gained significant attention, with social media users expressing their eagerness for the British fashion brand’s return to the high street. One fan commented: “It was iconic and still is,” while others asked Asos to “bring Topshop back” and “make it happen”.
This latest Instagram post follows a series of hints from the brand in recent days, including a teaser posted on 28 February with the caption “watch this space.”
The brand has also been active in the fashion scene, serving as the official sponsor for this year’s Universal Music Brit Awards after party, collaborating with conceptual artist Russ Jones. In one post, it teased a continuation of its partnership with Jones, captioning: “About last night… more to come?”
Alongside the social media hints, the brand is preparing to relaunch its website. A holding page is now live at ‘topshop.com,’ stating: “coming soon,” further raising speculation about a full return to online and potentially physical retail. Currently, the brand is available to shop online via Asos.
Asos, which sold 75% of the Topshop and Topman brands to Bestseller last year in a joint venture, has previously hinted that the brand could make a return to high street retail.
Asos CEO José Antonio Ramos Calamonte commented last year that the focus had been on relaunching the brand online but added that through its partnership with Bestseller, Topshop and Topman benefit from “extensive expertise and a presence in other channels, including wholesale and physical stores.”
