THE WHAT? Amorepacific is accelerating plans to establish manufacturing capabilities in the US as trade tensions and tariffs on Chinese goods raise concerns over the company’s Asia-centric production model.
THE DETAILS Currently reliant on China and South Korea for production, the company is in discussions with US partners and evaluating investments in logistics and modular manufacturing over the next three to five years. CEO Seunghwan Kim said the timeline for a full production facility—originally set for five to ten years—may be brought forward.
THE WHY? Amorepacific’s push into the US follows strong North American performance, including the acquisition of COSRX in 2023, which helped lift regional sales to 525.6 billion won (US$362 million) in 2024—more than five times higher than in 2021. The company’s success in the US is partly driven by K-beauty’s resonance with American consumers, viral skincare trends on TikTok and YouTube, and top rankings for hero products like snail mucin essence on Amazon.
