With less protection from the oceanic elements (and thus far fewer vineyards) than New York State’s North Fork, the Hamptons Long Island AVA nonetheless produces a range of notable wines, thanks to producers like Wölffer Estate in Sagaponack (famous for its rosé) and Bridgehampton’s Channing Daughters. To reduce the risks inherent with challenging growing conditions, particularly the region’s storms and fog, South Fork winemakers rely more heavily on blending than their neighbors to the north, and many of the Hamptons’s most prominent rosés are blends.
