North Fork Long Island AVA
(North Fork LAWNG EYE·luhnd)
More sheltered from the Atlantic’s intensity than the Hamptons, the North Fork AVA is situated on Long Island’s northern peninsula, allowing vines to enjoy the perks of a mild maritime climate with fewer hazards from fog and salt water. Instead, ocean breezes moderate the heat and cold. The New York State sub-AVA is home to the bulk of Long Island’s vineyards, with a broad variety of styles being produced, including traditional-method sparklers, concrete-aged whites, oak-aged reds and dessert bottlings.
