STAT+: Trump picks Susan Monarez to run the CDC
Monarez is the CDC's acting director and a longtime biosecurity expert with ties to former President Biden’s flagship health initiative.

WASHINGTON — After the chaotic withdrawal of President Trump’s previous nominee to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the president selected the CDC’s acting director, Susan Monarez, to lead the agency, according to a White House official.
Monarez is a longtime biosecurity expert with ties to former President Biden’s flagship health initiative. The CDC is in the crosshairs of federal budget cuts, frustration over the Covid-19 response, and a “Make America Healthy Again” movement that has homed in on the agency’s vaccine and food guidance.
Monarez would still need to be confirmed by the Senate. CBS reported earlier on Monday that Trump planned to select Monarez.
