Puma to relocate London flagship store to Oxford Street

Puma is set to move its UK flagship store from Carnaby Street to a new location on Oxford Street.

Drapers reported that the German sportswear brand will vacate its Soho store at 52-55 Carnaby Street and relocate to the larger space at 376-384 Oxford Street, according to property sources.

The flagship store on Carnaby Street opened in August 2023, marking Puma’s continued investment in the UK retail market.

The brand currently operates 13 stores across the UK and is available at major retailers including Next and Sports Direct.

The new location on Oxford Street was formerly occupied by Gap, which is now operated by Next in the UK and Ireland.

Gap previously ran two stores on Oxford Street, with the smaller of the two now home to Mango. It still retains a shop-in-shop in Next at 120 Oxford Street.

Puma’s sales saw a decline of 2.1% to €4.2bn (£3.61bn) in the first half of 2024, prompting the brand to adjust its forecast for the year.

“In this challenging environment, Puma continued to make progress on its strategic initiatives of brand elevation, product excellence and distribution quality with special focus on the US and China, and focused on strong sell-through and the best possible service to its retail partners, brand ambassadors and consumers,” the company said in its financial report.

This week, Ikea finally confirmed its highly anticipated Oxford Street flagship will open at the start of May following an extensive environmental upgrade of the Grade II listed building.

The 5,800sqm store at 214 Oxford Street will span three floors, and house the furniture giant’s showroom of inspiration roomsets, a market hall, and a 130-seater Swedish Deli.
