THE WHAT?  Olaplex has reported a 1.9% drop in net sales for Q1 2025, alongside a sharp decline in net income to US$0.5 million.

THE DETAILS  For the quarter ending March 31, 2025, the prestige hair care brand generated US$97 million in revenue, down from the previous year. While sales in the specialty retail channel rose 12% to US$38.6 million, this growth was overshadowed by continued declines in professional (-10.9%) and direct-to-consumer (-7.2%) segments. Net income fell significantly from US$7.7 million in Q1 2024 to US$0.5 million. Despite the downturn, Olaplex reaffirmed its full-year guidance, projecting 2025 net sales between US$410 million and US$430 million.

THE WHY? Olaplex’s performance underscores the brand’s ongoing struggle to stabilize its core channels amid a broader transformation strategy. Growth in specialty retail indicates some traction, but sustained declines in professional and DTC sales reflect deeper brand and distribution challenges. CEO Amanda Baldwin remains optimistic, pointing to progress on strategic initiatives and a better-than-expected start to the year.
