Hyundai To Begin Shipping Tesla NACS Adapters Soon

Hyundai EV owners gained access to Tesla’s Supercharging network today, giving them more than 20,000 new charging locations across the country. While the automaker will begin installing the necessary Tesla charging hardware in future vehicles, those already on the road need an adapter to use a Supercharger, but they won’t be waiting long, as Hyundai said it would begin shipping the devices soon.

The updated 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the brand’s first vehicle with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) from the factory. Its owners have had Supercharger access, but the adapters open the door to owners of older EV models, including the Ioniq 5 from before 2025, Ioniq 5 N, Ioniq 6, Kona EV, and other Ioniq models.

Owners who purchased their vehicles on or before January 31 are eligible to receive a free adapter. Hyundai said it would contact those people starting April 1, but to receive the message, you need an active MyHyundai.com account.

Hyundai isn’t alone in offering adapters to EV owners, but it is an early mover. Ford recently announced deliveries of its NACS adapter, but the automaker experienced significant delays getting them out the door. Most companies have decided to adopt NACS for future EV models, however, so owners will soon need an adapter to charge at third-party CCS stations.
