Stanford professor Jay Bhattacharya confirmed by Senate to run NIH
Jay Bhattacharya is aiming to reshape the NIH as the agency faces workforce cuts and lagging morale.

WASHINGTON — The Senate voted along party lines to confirm Stanford professor Jay Bhattacharya as director of the National Institutes of Health, the biggest funder of biomedical research in the world.
The vote was 53-47, with all Republicans backing Bhattacharya. It’s the conclusion to a relatively smooth confirmation process for Bhattacharya, who echoed health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Kr.’s promises to make America healthy again during his confirmation hearing in March.
