Ed. note: Welcome to our daily feature, Quote of the Day.
We call upon all law firms and bar associations to join us in condemning this outrageous action. Unless there is a broad-based condemnation of this and similar attacks, we face a significant risk that many individuals will become even more susceptible to vindictive, arbitrary, and unjust political prosecutions without the ability to vigorously defend themselves.
— The New York Council of Defense Lawyers, in a statement offered to Law.com, in the wake of President Donald Trump’s targeting of Covington & Burling, the Biglaw firm that is representing former special counsel Jack Smith. The New York Council of Defense Lawyers called Trump’s move “a brazen attack on the defense function and the rule of law.”
