Currys has today announced an increase in its minimum hourly pay for skilled store-based colleagues, with rates rising to £12.51 per hour (£13.51 in London) effective immediately.

The move will see more than 20,000 colleagues benefit from the increase, including a boost to the retailer’s bonus programme, which will raise the average hourly earnings across the business to £13.47.

The new rates place the electricals giant ahead of inflation, representing a 6% increase in pay.

The retailer has committed to maintaining competitive pay, with top-performing colleagues in the ‘Top Squad’ potentially earning up to £14.07 per hour, with uncapped bonuses allowing for even higher earnings.

This move is the latest in a series of pay rises for the retailer’s skilled store-based colleagues, following a 32% increase in minimum hourly pay over the past three years.

Chief people, communications and sustainability officer Paula Coughlan said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer this latest pay rise to our colleagues, which is more than double the current inflation rate.

“This demonstrates our commitment to recognising the dedication and expertise of our team, who continue to play a crucial role in ensuring our customers have access to the best technology.

“I’m determined to continue making Currys an ever-better place to work, where colleagues can build valuable skills and grow their careers.”

Alongside competitive pay, the business said it offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes bonuses, a 10% colleague discount, pension plans, flexible benefits, and health and wellbeing support.

This pay rise follows similar moves by other retailers. M&S is increasing pay for over 50,000 staff, with customer assistants’ hourly rates rising to £12.60, while B&Q is raising its minimum hourly pay to £12.71, with up to £14.05 for those in London.
