Trump picks Susan Monarez to run the CDC

WASHINGTON — After the chaotic withdrawal of President Trump’s previous nominee to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the president selected the CDC’s acting director, Susan Monarez, to lead the agency.
Monarez is a longtime biosecurity expert with ties to former President Biden’s flagship health initiative, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health. The CDC is in the crosshairs of federal budget cuts, frustration over the Covid-19 response, and a Make America Healthy Again movement that has homed in on the agency’s vaccine and food guidance.
