Superdrug is set to open 25 new stores across the UK this year, expanding its footprint and creating 600 new jobs as part of its ongoing investment in physical retail.
The health and beauty retailer will focus on large-scale, experience-driven stores, capitalising on growing demand for leisure shopping.
Superdrug said its top 100 stores saw an 8% increase in footfall in January, reflecting shifting consumer behaviour towards immersive retail experiences.
The store expansion kicked off with the opening of Leeds Briggate last month, with further ‘gold-tier’ stores set to open in Guernsey and Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, as well as a major extension at Meadowhall, Sheffield.
Superdrug is also refurbishing 65 stores and expanding multiple locations, including Luton and Dundee, with some sites set to double in size.
The retailer’s experience-focused stores aim to enhance the in-store journey, offering beauty services such as manicures, eyebrow threading, and ear piercing at its Beauty Studios, which saw a 7% sales increase in 2024.
It said it is also seeing success in luxury fragrance counters, which achieved a 24% year-to-date volume growth, and nurse clinics, which saw a 22% sales boost last year.
Superdrug property director Nigel Duxbury said: “We want everyone who enters Superdrug to feel an elevated customer experience. For us, this is not about a quick and easy purchase, it is about engaging customers with added extras that truly enrich their everyday lives.
“We can see from our sales last year that investing in and increasing the number of large-format stores in our estate allows us to accelerate our bricks-and-mortar strategy, so that we can bring the bigger and better shopping experience, that we know our customers love, to even more communities across the UK.”
Each new and refurbished store will also follow Superdrug’s sustainability initiatives, ensuring energy-efficient and eco-friendly retail spaces.
