The Miami Design District is getting yet another exciting luxury store opening as Manolo Blahnik has just opened its doors in the shopping mecca. In an exclusive interview, we sit down with Kristina Blahnik, the CEO of Manolo Blahnik, to better understand her creative vision behind this exciting venture. From the inspiration drawn from art deco masters and contemporary artists to the careful balance of legacy and innovation, this new boutique promises to be a celebration of Manolo Blahnik’s enduring passion for art, culture, and individuality—values that have defined the brand for decades. HAUTE LIVING: Can you walk us through the concept for the new Manolo Blahnik store in Miami?
KRISTINA BLAHNIK: My uncle Manolo’s passion for the art deco movement and Joseph Hoffman were both huge inspirations for the store’s monochromatic black and white design. Bridget Reilly, another one of Manolo’s favorite artists, sparked the idea of the fantastic circular patterns seen on the façade. This location will be creative and dynamic, reflective of the Miami Design District.

HL: In building new retail destinations, how do you find the balance between maintaining the brand’s legacy while also being modern?
KB: Similar to how Manolo designs his collections, we do not follow trends and stay true to our roots. Manolo’s passion for art and culture can be seen in our boutiques globally, and we were excited to convey this in the context of Miami.
HL: What is your relationship with the City of Miami like? What are some of your favorite cultural aspects of Miami?
KB: I first visited Miami in 2014 and fell in love with the city’s liveliness. It is such a hub for art, creativity, and culture. We have always imagined South Florida as a home for the brand and cannot wait to create our community here.

HL: From your perspective, who is the modern Manolo woman? And the modern Manolo man?
KB: The modern Manolo woman and man eschew trends in favor of strong personal style, timelessness and creativity. There are so many incredible women and men who have both worn and inspired Manolo Blahnik styles over the years!
HL: What are your all-time favorite shoe styles?
KB: My forever favorite shoe is the Maysale. Manolo designed her for Isaac Mizrahi in 1990 and she is timeless. She’s the one I reach for the most in every color – lately the striking new pink that’s exclusive to the Miami boutique! I also adore Jadaron in blue, designed especially for Miami as the perfect beach club to dinner style.
