Imagine a living room bathed in sunlight filtering through a living wall, where mycelium furniture exudes a subtle, earthy fragrance —a snapshot of tomorrow’s home. Interior design, ever the mirror of our evolving lives, is transforming rapidly.

To decode these shifts and help you craft an aesthetically beautiful space, we’ve consulted architects, interior designers, and furniture artisans, uncovering the key trends shaping interior design trends, 2025 edition. This article explores the return of tactile textures, the soothing influence of nature-inspired color palettes, and the growing fusion of indoor and outdoor living. Ultimately, the 2025 design ethos champions natural elements, personalized spaces, and a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, transforming homes. This applies whether you’ve incorporated minimalist designs to your apartment in Dallas, TX, nature-inspired elements to your home in Seattle, WA, or eco-friendly design to your condo in Los Angeles, CA.

1.  Color-drenching

Color is back in a big way, with trends like “color drenching,” shares Kim Lucian of Design Confetti. In 2025, expect a move beyond greens to a broader palette of pinks, reds, and browns, with color appearing in unexpected places like interior doors. Lastly, she suggests leaving behind the gray-cast desaturation of the 2010s, embracing warmer interiors and layered lighting with warm color temperatures, favoring lamps and lower fixtures over harsh overhead lighting.

“I think we’re shifting away from the ‘everything is a shade of gray or greige’ thing and designing spaces with more visual interest and design elements. The interplay between colorful neutrals (think dusty shades of pink or sage, bluish grays, or warm browns) with pops of brighter, bolder colors is such an accessible way to modernize your space without having to overhaul everything. Keep your neutrals, but also find places to add some personality- anything from saturated colors to bright neon, prints- pinstripes, polka dots, florals (vintage tiny flower prints are having a resurgence!), and textures- luxurious fabrics and more natural elements like wood and stone.” – Diana Wyzga, The Pink Pinecone

“Color and material drenching is in! Choose a color and apply it throughout the space — on the walls, ceiling, trim, and doors — to create a cozy impact, especially in a bathroom or office. I think deep reds, blues, and greens will be my go-to colors this year! For material drenching, when designing a bathroom, select a tile and extend that same tile and color from the floor into the shower and up the shower walls giving it a cohesive flow. Extra points for coordinating a wall paint color with the tile for a monochromatic effect.” – Victoria Moronta Design & Co

2. Nature textures

Susan Knof of KNOF Design shares: “While trends can be inspiring, timeless design always takes precedence in high-end residential interiors. In 2025, we’re witnessing a shift toward richer, more tactile materials and colors — think warm woods, natural stones, and layered textiles — that add depth and authenticity. Furthermore, bespoke craftsmanship and sustainability remain essential, with clients prioritizing personalized, heirloom-quality pieces over fleeting fads.

“2025 is all about texture, depth, and natural elements. We’re moving beyond smooth, polished finishes and embracing raw, organic materials. Think micro-cement, plastered walls, exposed stone, brick, and hand-crafted tiles — all adding warmth and character to a space. Woods aren’t just a smooth finish, but chiseled or with imperfections. Layered textures are key — woven fabrics, aged leathers, and velvet, among others, are playing a role in creating inviting, tactile spaces. Metal finishes are also evolving; mix-matching brass, matte black, and patinaed tones add depth and interest. This isn’t about following a specific style — it’s about layering textures and materials that make your home feel like home. ” – Chelsey Morphy, Founder, Homeowner HQ

3. Built-in features

Design Haus Liberty, an architecture and interior design firm, notes that homes are becoming more dynamic, playful, and personalized. Built-in features in children’s rooms, for instance, add both fun and function. Multipurpose spaces, like dining tables that also serve as workstations, reflect our evolving lifestyles. With more people prioritizing time at home, interiors are seen as a true investment, leading to the rise of bold, singular statement pieces such as oversized rugs, sculptural stone tables, and standout sofas. The color palette leans towards soft sophistication, with off-whites, light beiges, and creams dominating, accented by subtle, nature-inspired tones for warmth and depth.

 4.Earthy tones like clay

Embracing warmth, personality, and sustainability, interior design in 2025 sees a shift away from whites and grays toward earthy tones like clay, terracotta, and deep olive green, with rich blues adding a sophisticated touch. Furthermore, fast furniture is out. Instead, designers are focusing on statement pieces with bold curves, vintage charm, and sustainable materials, according to Reperch, the largest selection of quality pre-owned home goods.

“Wellness-driven interiors: 2025 is all about creating spaces that nurture the mind and body. Earthy, grounding tones like terracotta, moss green, and warm beiges replace sterile whites and grays, bringing a sense of calm. Textured, natural materials—linen, clay, and reclaimed wood—take center stage, while fast furniture fades out in favor of timeless, high-quality pieces that support a serene and intentional home.” – Cassiana Jensen Interiors

5. Jewel tones and saturated colors

2025 is full of color and personal expression. Risha Walden with Walden Interiors says, “Scrap what everyone else is doing this year and express yourself in your home. Greige and white are out. Jewel tones and saturated colors that bring mood and ambiance into a space are in.  Every surface is a palette for expression.”

“In 2025, interior design trends are embracing boldness and personalization. The maximalist decor is gaining popularity, with vibrant colors and expressive styles replacing minimalist simplicity. Designers are incorporating earthy tones and jewel hues, such as mustard yellow and wine red, to create warm, inviting spaces. Curved furniture and mixed materials are being used to add depth and authenticity to interiors. Additionally, there’s a resurgence of vintage elements, with Art Deco and 17th-century patterns making a comeback, reflecting a blend of historical influences in modern design.” – Celebrity Furnishings

6. Vintage and handcrafted pieces

Jaageer Marketing, an international real estate agency, highlights the trend of personalized, textured interiors: “Combine local artistry with the charm of thrifted vintage. Inherited furniture, handcrafted goods, and unique finds add character. Raw, natural materials like unstained wood and linen, in earthy tones like cream and brown, are essential. This blend creates a cozy, authentic space.”

“Wall grilles will be trending in 2025, especially for DIY projects. Radiator covers and fireplace screens can all be made into wall grilles and vent covers, and they look elegant. If you are not into DIY, wall grilles are affordable and popping up on most popular décor sites. They make for an updated look above the bed, narrow walls, and air vents—be imaginative. You can update any room with wall grilles, which complement most décor.” – Toni On Thrifting

“The beauty of imperfection is redefining luxury. In 2025, free-flowing, hand-formed ceramics with painterly details will bring warmth and personality to modern spaces. Thoughtful craftsmanship and organic shapes will invite connection, turning simple everyday objects into special moments in your space” –   Art by Tammy Jo Schoppet

7. Statement greenery

Bring the outside in, Think living walls or just a ton of cool, hanging plants. It’s not just about looking good, either; all that greenery cleans your air and makes your place feel super chill, like a little nature escape.

“Why not bring your garden inside? I don’t know about you, but I love being surrounded by my plants. They calm me as I care for them, making sure they are healthy and thriving. They give so much back in return. Health is always on-trend.” – Jos Kipperman Design

8. Intentional private spaces: closed concept

While open-concept layouts have dominated for years, 2025 will see a shift towards defined, multi-functional zones that offer both privacy and purpose.

“2025 is all about redefining how we use our homes, focusing on creating more intentional, private spaces. While open-concept living isn’t going anywhere, we’re seeing a rise in separate family rooms, cozy dens, and kids’ retreats that offer a sense of privacy and comfort. Earthy neutrals and soft muted greens are on trend, paired with warm woods and textured materials that add depth and a grounded, serene feeling to each space.”- Interior Designer/Owner Kaitlyn Wolfe

9. Artisanal craftsmanship

Forget mass-produced: 2025 celebrates the beauty of handcrafted pieces, where imperfections tell a story and materials possess a unique soul. Expect to see furniture, textiles, and decorative items crafted by skilled artisans, adding a layer of authenticity and warmth to your home.

“2025 is all about celebrating artisanal craftsmanship in interior design. With a growing appreciation for handcrafted pieces, we’re seeing a rise in woodworking, intricate textile designs, and bespoke furniture that tell a story. These elements bring warmth, authenticity, and a sense of connection to our spaces.” – Interior Designer/Owner of Brenda Danso

10. White wall with warm undertones

Crisp white walls remain a classic choice, but in 2025, they’re infused with warm undertones like creamy off-whites or soft beiges, creating a cozy and inviting backdrop. This subtle warmth prevents the space from feeling sterile, allowing natural textures and vibrant accents to truly shine.

“White walls are still ‘in,’ but we’re opting for shades that lean warmer to create an inviting atmosphere. This subtle shift allows you to layer textures, artwork, and greenery without overwhelming the space.” –  Roomlay interior design software

11. Personality-driven spaces

Personalized spaces are key in 2025, moving beyond generic trends to reflect individual stories and passions. Curated collections, bespoke furniture, and deeply resonant art transform your home into a visual autobiography, letting your unique identity shine.

“Incorporate more personal touches in their interior design. Original artwork, grandmother’s trivets, or a personal collection become focal points in a room. Larger pieces like an heirloom dresser are upcycled into kitchen islands or refinished to best complement the space. Savvy decorators will shop there, or their parents, attics,” advises Carol J. Alexander, home improvement specialist.

“Cookie-cutter is OUT, and layering unique finds that scream you is IN! Personality-packed spaces blend with bold floral seating, vibrant green walls, and a collected gallery — complete with charming empty frames — to create a curated, storied, and utterly unique design moment. It’s got soul and that’s what 2025 is all about.”  – Kate Dawson, with Decor Whore

Smart home technology seamlessly blends with natural textures, creating spaces that are both functional and tactilely engaging. Appliance selections and integration into home automation and layout will continue to thrive in 2025, with natural wood playing a key role in softening the tech-forward aesthetic.

“Kitchen designers will be looking to integrate into their dream creations smart storage and accessories making homeowners’ lives easier while cooking and entertaining. The appliance selections and integration into home automation and layout will continue to thrive in 2025. The use of natural woods, bold paint colors, and metallic, cerused, and matte textured finishes will be also part of the selections for this year. Linear LED integrated lighting, both for task and soft illumination of the space will continue to propagate and find new ways to be used in kitchen design in 2025.”  – Aspen Leaf interior by Marcio Decker

“Clutter-free living remains a priority in 2025, driving the demand for integrated storage solutions. Built-in shelving, hidden storage under stairs, and custom cabinetry are becoming must-haves, adding character while maximizing space efficiency. Furthermore, textured accent walls are replacing smooth drywall, with wood slat walls, Venetian plaster, and panel molding becoming focal points in living areas and bedrooms, adding depth and visual interest.” –  Paul D’Arcy with Homeowner Services of Michigan

13. Eco-friendly design

“Embrace color washing to create a soothing ambiance with softly blended hues on your walls,”
shares Sonja Parker with Design Box. Focus on sustainable materials to ensure your decor is stylish and eco-friendly. Parker also suggests: “incorporating bold patterns through textiles and artwork to add character and make a statement in your space. These trends will not only keep your home looking fresh but also reflect a modern and mindful approach to design.”

“2025 will see a resurgence of natural materials and textures, with a focus on sustainable and eco-friendly design. One of the biggest trends will be the use of biophilic design, which incorporates elements of nature into interior spaces to promote well-being and relaxation. Another trend will be the incorporation of smart home technology into interior design, allowing homeowners to control lighting, temperature, and other elements with ease. In terms of color, 2025 will see a shift towards calming and soothing hues, such as blues and greens, which will be used to create a sense of serenity and tranquility. Finally, the trend towards minimalism will continue, with a focus on clean lines, simple shapes, and a limited color palette to create a sense of simplicity and sophistication.”  – Design Bump

“Connect with nature: Adding biophilic elements to your home is proven to enhance your well-being and happiness. This can be achieved by maximizing natural light (window treatments should reveal the entire window when opened), using natural materials like wood and stone, layering in some fractal patterns from nature, and treating yourself to the company of air-purifying plants.” –  Elizabeth Craigs owner of Eco-Friendly Compassionate

14. Mix metals

Mixed metals are no longer a design faux as, but a deliberate choithat will to add depth and visual interest to interiors in 2025. Combining warm tones like brass and copper with cooler silvers and blacks creates a dynamic and sophisticated look, whether in lighting fixtures, hardware, or decorative accents.

“This year, we’re loving the opportunity to mix metals in the form of cabinetry hardware, plumbing fixtures, and lighting. Speaking of lighting, the bigger, the better. Dramatic lighting makes such a difference and can make or break a room’s design intrigue — all while not blowing the budget. To round things out, texture is king — wallpaper, pillows, throws, fabrics — mixing and matching will elevate your design tenfold.” –Nest with the Nelsons

15. Softer tones and curved furniture

Soft, muted tones, like sage green and dusty rose, create a calming ambiance, while curved furniture adds a sense of fluidity and comfort. Rounded sofas, arched doorways, and organically shaped tables soften harsh lines, fostering a welcoming and tranquil atmosphere.

“Color trends are often influenced by the economic climate, with neutral tones favored during prosperous times and brighter shades emerging during more challenging periods. This influence extends to furniture design as well. Currently, trends in soft goods seating, such as sofas and armchairs, feature rounder, softer curves, creating a sense of comfort and offering an inviting aesthetic suitable for both large and smaller spaces.” –  Victor Liberatore Interior Design

16. Functional minimalism

Functional minimalism prioritizes purpose and efficiency, stripping away unnecessary clutter while retaining warmth and personality. Expect to see clean lines, multi-functional furniture, and thoughtfully curated storage solutions that maximize space and minimize visual noise.

“Minimalism is evolving beyond stark and sterile. The new approach is about functionality, warmth, and intention. Each piece has a purpose, and excess is stripped away in favor of a more considered, curated look. This results in a space that feels effortlessly chic yet livable.” – Laura Brophy Interiors

17. Timeless western aesthetic

The timeless Western aesthetic, reimagined for 2025, balances rustic charm with modern sophistication. Think supple leather accents, natural wood finishes, and handcrafted textiles, subtly nodding to the frontier while maintaining a refined, contemporary feel.

“Embrace rugged natural elements with reclaimed wood and stone. Support your local artisans and bring uniqueness into your design through handcrafted items. Calming earthy colors such as greens and browns will be popular as people desire to reconnect with nature.”–  Eric & Jhanelle The Sustainable Living Guide

18.Fine art

A central element in creating personalized and immersive spaces is adding fine art. Expect to see curated collections that reflect individual tastes, from bold contemporary pieces to cherished vintage finds, seamlessly integrated into the overall design narrative.

“Designing your home to reflect what you truly love is my favorite way to navigate the industry’s shifts with originality and style. I encourage purchasing art from living artists and emerging galleries rather than exclusively chasing big names and deceased artists who are frequently faked.  This can save you from many headaches about authenticity issues in your art collection.  Most importantly, you’re greatly amplifying the positive impact you have in the creative economy.  Supporting living artists by collecting their artwork allows them to keep creating new art from which we all benefit.  If I had the wall space and budget, I’d get the beautiful painting “Guided” by artist Miriam Vlaming available at my friend Larissa Wild’s art gallery.  There are so many treasures waiting to be discovered. “ – Sarah Reeder, AAA Artifactual History® Appraisal

19. Layering texture

Layering textures is key to creating depth and visual interest in 2025 interiors. Think plush velvet cushions nestled against linen throws, or rough-hewn wooden surfaces paired with smooth, polished stone, offering a rich tactile experience that engages the senses.

“One of my favorite interior design trends for 2025 is layered textures for a luxurious look. Think wool throw blankets and heavy linen pillows on a leather chair or leather pillows on a velvet sofa. Pair a lightweight cotton rug over a jute rug for added interest or place a stone vase on a rustic wood side table. Elevate your space by combing hard and soft textures to create a rich and cozy feel.” – Danae Branson, Founder Elite Design Assistants

20. Outdoor/ indoor living

The line between indoors and outdoors continues to blur, with fully retractable walls, covered patios with built-in heaters, and outdoor kitchens that rival their indoor counterparts. Biophilic design — bringing nature inside through expansive glass, natural stone, and lush greenery — creates a serene, wellness-focused atmosphere. In 2025, we’re seeing more homeowners invest in resort-style backyards, complete with plunge pools, fire features, and seamless transitions for year-round entertaining.

As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of interior design, 2025 presents an exciting opportunity to embrace a new era of home aesthetics. By incorporating natural elements, personalized touches, and a seamless connection between indoors and out, we can create spaces that are not only visually stunning but also deeply resonant with our individual stories and values. Whether you’re drawn to the warmth of earthy tones, the tactile allure of layered textures, or the serenity of biophilic design, the trends of 2025 empower us to curate homes that truly reflect who we are and how we aspire to live. So, embrace the transformative power of design and create a sanctuary that nurtures your well-being and inspires you every day.
