Halfords is set to invest £14m into improving its car repair and services across 150 of its stores.

The motoring specialist will transform the pop-up canopies outside its shops that look after basic services such as wiper and bulb-fittings, The Sun reported.

The retailer will also introduce permanent fixtures across the five to ten stores each month, in a move enabling its technicians to do more detailed checks on vehicles and schedule them into Halfords garages if more work is needed.

The investment comes as the retailer recorded a 50% increase in sales across 50 trial sites that had new fixture models.

Halfords CEO Graham Stapleton said: “We want to be a one-stop-shop for you car, and this way our technicians can spot the work that’s needed in a garage when helping our retail customers.”

Last month, the retailer raised its profit expectations for the year following positive trading across its stores and autocentres during peak season.

The motoring and cycling specialist now expects underlying profit before tax to reach between £32m and £37m, up from previous estimates.
