[Correspondence] LGBTQ+ rights and health: a shifting landscape

In January, 2025, several executive orders were issued limiting federal funding for gender-affirming health care, declaring that there are only two biological sexes, and halting diversity programmes.1 These measures mark a substantial setback for social justice and equity, particularly in advancing inclusive policies. They also risk deepening the marginalisation and discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ individuals—especially transgender people—while possibly contributing to adverse health outcomes, including high rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidality.
