Hand eczema is a common skin disease, with an annual prevalence of 4·7% in the general population (3·8% in men and 5·6% in women).1 Chronic hand eczema is diagnosed when the disease persists for more than 3 months or recurs at least twice per year.2 In addition to causing substantial pruritus, chronic hand eczema can become painful and debilitating. Chronic hand eczema is the most common occupational skin disease and is a major cause of work-related impairment with the potential to lead to unemployment.
