[Comment] Asymptomatic tuberculosis: undetected and underestimated, but not unimportant

Tuberculosis comprises a spectrum of disease; active tuberculosis disease can be asymptomatic (subclinical tuberculosis) or symptomatic (figure).1 The terminology remains contentious, with a Delphi process (the International Consensus for Early Tuberculosis framework2) suggesting a framework and approach to defining an asymptomatic phenotype3 and WHO adopting the term asymptomatic tuberculosis to replace subclinical tuberculosis in 2024.3 The definition will likely evolve as more data and new tools become available.
