Boots CMO exits after four years

Boots chief marketing officer Pete Markey has left the retailer after more than four and a half years.

Markey, who joined the health and beauty chain in 2021, played a key role in the growth of brand’s loyalty proposition and was responsible for some of its biggest Christmas and summer campaigns.

He wrote in a LinkedIn post: “Boots is an incredible business and it’s been an honour to work on such an amazing brand and with such a talented group of people over the past 4.5 years.

“I’m excited about the next chapter in my career and wish everyone in the Boots UK and Irish business continued success.”

His exit comes after the retailer’s owner Walgreens Boots Alliance confirmed in March that the group would be acquired by private equity firm Sycamore Partners for £17.5bn.

A Boots spokesperson told Marketing Week: “Pete Markey has stepped down from his role after four and a half years leading our marketing function

“Pete has made a significant contribution during his time with us, leading our marketing transformation and delivering many creative campaigns alongside our talented marketing team.

“We would like to thank him for his support and wish him well for the future.”
