The ruling is the latest blow to transgender youth and their families, who have been fighting the Trump administration’s continuous attempts to restrict their access to care.
The decision will have major implications around the country, as 27 states currently have bans on gender-affirming hormones, surgery, or both, for trans youth. Because the decision applies to states, more litigation will likely be needed when it comes to federal action on the care.
