Welding Helmet Offers Digital Interface, Extended Shade Range

ESAB recently introduced its newly-enhanced SAVAGE A41 automatic welding helmet, which features an internal digital user interface to adjust auto-darkening filter (ADF) parameters, a shade range extended to 8-13 (compared to 9-13 for the SAVAGE A40) and a streamlined external Grind Mode that switches the lens to shade 4 for grinding and some cutting processes. The digital interface adjusts shade, delay and sensitivity, has indicators for grind and low battery as well as a test button.

“The new interface eliminates the external shade selection knob and ensures shade settings won’t accidentally change. The grind button is nearly flush with the helmet, which similar to our popular Sentinel helmet design,” says Kevin Beckerdite, Global Product Manager – PPE, ESAB. “Finally, the addition of a shade 8 setting helps when welding at lower amperages, such as with small diameter MIG wires or tungstens.”

The SAVAGE A41 automatic welding helmet is lightweight (17.6 oz.) and provides ideal functionality for the occasional and professional welder at an attractive price. Its ultra-clear True Color lens technology provides a view of the weld puddle and surrounding area, enabling precise bead placement. SAVAGE viewing technology is based on a 1/1/1/2 optical class lens that measures 3.93- x 1.96-in. (100 x 50 mm). The viewing area provides a wide field of vision and increased spatial awareness. Four sensors provide a high response, especially when welding out-of-position. W The SAVAGE A41 optional hardhat adapter offers additional safety

“Helmets with a 1/1/1/2 optical class rating offer a sharp, clear and consistent view of the weld puddle without the extra cost to obtain the angle dependency 1 rating, a difference that most operators find difficult to perceive,” says Beckerdite. “Our voice-of-customer research shows this class provides users with the best combination of performance and value.”

The SAVAGE A41 is available to purchase through welding supply distributors (find dealers near you) and online retailers. Visit our website to learn more about ESAB Personal Protective Equipment.
