Celebrity chef and publican Tom Kerridge will close the London outpost of Butcher’s Tap & Grill this weekend, shy of two years after opening it.
Kerridge's original Butcher's Tap & Grill opened in Marlow, which is also the home of his two-Michelin-starred Hand and Flowers, in 2017.
He opened the second location for the casual dining concept on Tryon Street in West London in the latter half of 2023.
However, despite it being a new opening (so new, in fact, that its website still refers to it as a "cracking new local pub by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge"), the Butcher's Tap & Grill Chelsea is already
Late last week, Kerridge announced that the pub would be closing its doors for the final time at the end of the month, with the final service taking place on Sunday.
An Instagram post read as follows:
"After thoughtful consideration, The Tom Kerridge Group has made the difficult decision to close The Butcher's Tap in Chelsea, with the pub's final service taking place on Sunday 1 June."
"The team has worked hard to make the concept work, but nothing is a given in the challenging climate hospitality businesses now face," the statement continued. "Increasing costs demand a match in revenue and turnover that has not materialised at the site, providing an opportunity to regroup, rethink and rebuild. The Group remains confident it can learn from experiences in Chelsea and adapt to create something great."
Kerridge already has two other restaurants in the capital: Kerridge's Bar & Grill in the Corinthia and Kerridge's Fish & Chips at Harrods, home to his now-infamous £37 'market day' fish and chips.
