STAT+: STAT is backing up and monitoring CDC data in real time: See what’s changing

In the weeks since President Trump took office, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has removed at least 135 datasets and other files from its public data platform, data.cdc.gov, a STAT analysis shows. The removals appear to be part of an effort to scrub out language that has been deemed objectionable to the Trump administration.

Because Trump had harshly criticized public health officials during his campaign, STAT anticipated there might be changes to federal health websites. As rumors began swirling near the end of January that federal websites would be taken down entirely if they had not yet fully complied with Trump’s executive orders, we downloaded and archived all available files from data.cdc.gov.
