STAT+: Mayo Clinic taps former Biden administration official to oversee its use of AI
Exclusive: Micky Tripathi, former top HHS official, to join Mayo Clinic as a senior executive overseeing implementation of AI.

Mayo Clinic has hired Micky Tripathi, a former top health technology official under President Biden, to be its chief AI implementation officer, a role that involves overseeing the technology’s development and adoption within the sprawling health system.
Tripathi most recently was the assistant secretary for technology policy and the national coordinator for health information technology. He led the government’s efforts to establish guardrails for use of AI by federal health agencies and private businesses. Mayo Clinic confirmed his hiring on Thursday. He is expected to start the new job next month.
His work at the academic health system, based in Rochester, Minn., will focus on oversight and ongoing monitoring of AI within Mayo, which is aggressively building the technology into its clinical and business operations. Mayo is not only developing various forms of the technology for its own use, but has also established a business, called Mayo Clinic Platform, to incubate early-stage AI companies to help develop and scale products across the industry.
