Smooth Moves Improve Workflow
By optimizing material flow in your shop you can reduce turnaround times and increase throughput. The post Smooth Moves Improve Workflow appeared first on Fabricating & Metalworking.

Cranes, reliable braking systems, and tuggers are among the numerous systems that enable your shop to effectively and safely move heavy materials and components.
Workstation and Free-standing Lifting Solutions

Engineered Material Handling (EMH) (Valley City, OH) offers cranes for workstations and free-standing projects. The EMH AL System Workstation Cranes are flexible and easily installed lifting solutions for a variety of crane applications with capacities up to 2,200 lbs. Features include lightweight aluminum track profiles, anodized enclosed rails, and anti-kick-up nylon wheels. Exclusive EMH T-slot design is an important advantage for splicing two pieces of rail together.
The AL System Workstation family includes lamp post and jib crane styles. Lamp post cranes require only four upright columns per runway cell, with the crane runway clamped onto the top of the frame at the corners using standard AL clamps. Jib crane styles are ideal for underneath bridge cranes, in areas serving multiple workstations, or in machining and assembly areas where several jib cranes might overlap.
Modular EMH NOMAD® Free-Standing Cranes are flexible lifting solutions for more demanding installations, or when shop’s needs change or when a traditional overhead crane installation is either difficult or impractical. These cranes are available in overall widths up to 50’ and overall heights up to 25’, with capacities from 2 tons-to-10 tons. Base plate design allows many NOMAD cranes to be installed without footers. With easily bolted assembly, NOMAD cranes are also easily dismantled and relocated, if needed. NOMAD XW Free-Standing Cranes expand and extend NOMAD crane capabilities with overall widths of up to 60’ with overall heights up to 25’, and capacities from 2 tons up to 20 tons.
Crane Brakes Eliminate At-height Maintenance

Force Control Industries (Fairfield, OH) offers MagnaShear motor brakes that virtually eliminate crane brake maintenance, adjustment, and repairs, to significantly enhance the safety of crane operations. Because crane brake adjustment and maintenance, such as adjusting the distance between worn friction plates, or replacing friction plates which have glazed over from heat, is always performed at height, eliminating these activities enhances the safety of the crane operations. This type of dry crane brake maintenance, adjustment, and repair is also a leading source of crane downtime, so eliminating it also significantly improves crane uptime and utility.
MagnaShear motor brakes feature oil shear technology, which ensures elongated service life. The technology transmits torque between lubricated surfaces — thereby eliminating wear on friction surfaces. A patented fluid recirculation system dissipates heat — eliminating heat buildup, which is the most common problem in dry braking systems. Elimination of the wear significantly increases service life and virtually eliminates adjustment, which also elongates maintenance intervals. MagnaShear Oil Shear Crane Brakes provide longer service in applications with frequent start/stop cycles as seen on cranes, hoists and winches. MagnaShear motor brakes feature “quick mount” features for easy mounting to drive motors in NEMA frame sizes 56 to 449. They can also be furnished to fit a NEMA or IEC frame motor, as a complete motor and brake assembly, or to mount on a machine frame or other special mounting configuration.
Heavy-duty Tuggers Redefine Heavy Load Movement

MasterMover, Inc. (Charlotte, NC) has announced a significant expansion of its best-in-class PowerSteered range, introducing six new models designed to meet diverse load-moving challenges. The new models are: PS800+, PS1000+, PS1200+, PS1500+, PS2000+ and the PS2500+. They bolster the existing range of models, which features the electric tugger, the PS7000+.
Key features of the expanded PowerSteered range include intuitive power steering, which improves ergonomics, steering abilities and delivers enhanced positioning, even when moving the largest wheeled loads. What’s more, light steering and a new front-facing hitch camera deliver excellent maneuverability and visibility. Additionally, a suite of new control options is available, including a pedestrian control option, remote control operation; a MultiLink to control multiple tuggers with a single remote; and the new and groundbreaking TillerLink, which allows operators to simultaneously control two machines through pedestrian operation. The new models are also available as Automated Guided Vehicles, able to handle Line Follow navigation and advanced natural feature technology for fully automated material handling.
