THE WHAT? Shell is said to be considering the sale of its chemicals businesses in Europe and the US. The petrochemicals firm has bought Morgan Stanley on board to conduct a strategic review of the unit, which includes its Neodol portfolio.

THE DETAILS According to a report published by the WSJ, quoting ‘sources familiar with the matter’, private equity entities or Middle Eastern companies looking to expand their western presence have been earmarked as potential buyers.

THE WHY? Both Morgan Stanley and Shell declined to comment when contacted by Reuters, but Shell CEO, Wael Saean has previously stated that he wants the company to focus on its most profitable sectors, namely oil, gas and biofuels.
