Oxygen-Redox Reactions
The participation of oxygen in redox reactions increases the capacity of battery electrode but with several degradation mode. In article number 2405714, Atsuo Yamada and co-workers demonstrate the long-awaited answer to the chicken and egg problem on the order of degradation events. The oxygen oxidation can be divided into three sequential steps: (i) generation of persistent oxidized oxide ion O-, (ii) peroxide formation, and (iii) transition-metal migration.
