The Edrington Group has debuted an ultra-premium expression of its Brugal rum with the launch of the limited edition Andrés Brugal Edition 02. db finds out what makes it special.
The rum has been developed by fifth generation maestra ronera Jassil Villanueva Quintana and has just been released in only 416 bottles housed in a travel-inspired case to global acclaim.
Describing more about the expression, Brugal's maestra ronera Jassil Villanueva Quintana told the drinks business: "This exceptional release honours founder Andrés Brugal Montaner and the maestros roneros who shaped the brand, and the journey that propelled Brugal to international acclaim. A true masterpiece, Edition 02 is crafted from carefully selected Brugal family rum reserves, aged exclusively in handpicked casks. This expression combines three single ex-Bourbon American oak casks and a single new American oak cask to create a blend of exceptional quality and complexity. The result is an exquisite rum infused with intricately layered notes of brown sugar, fresh vanilla and orange blossom balanced by hints of black tea. With limited decanters available worldwide, more than a collector’s piece, Andrés Brugal Edition 02 is a tribute to Brugal’s pioneering spirit and unwavering dedication to Dominican rum mastery.”
Andrés Brugal Edition 02 is, according to Edrington, Brugal’s most premium expression to date and is a fitting tribute to its founder’s journey that resulted in bringing Brugal to an international audience.
Andrés Brugal Edition 02 will retail at £2,420 per bottle and with just 416 bottles in total, the expression will see a limited allocation of just 20 being available for the UK market.
Andrés Brugal Edition 02 has a “golden amber hue” and offers up “aromas of brown sugar, fresh vanilla pods, toasted pecans, and creamy coconut are balanced by citrus and tropical fruits, with subtle undertones of aged wood”. The palate has “layers of woody richness, creamy vanilla fudge, baking spices, and caramelised banana, culminating in a long, dry finish with velvety hints of vanilla and spice”.
Quintana told db: “The launch of Andrés Brugal Edition 02 comes at a time of sustained growth for the prestige rum category as consumers embrace its rich heritage and masterful craftsmanship.
