Polestar Extends Tesla Conquest Cash Through March

It was reported last week that EV-maker Polestar was putting extra cash on the hood of its products for anyone ditching a Tesla. This morning, the fine print of that deal was updated to extend the offer through to the end of March.
You may read excited headlines about how Polestar is shoving $20,000 in the faces of disaffected Tesla owners but the truth, as it always seems to be in car sales, is a bit murkier. That figure is arrived at by the way of numerous stackable rebates including a $15,000 Polestar Clean Vehicle Noncash Incentive. The actual Tesla-skewering amount remains a cool five grand, which is nothing to sneeze at.
The offer was renewed today, March 3, and is indicated by Polestar to be available until March 31 – so long as delivery of a Polestar 3 is taken before that day. It is said to only apply to the lease deal of a 2025 model on which a U.S. resident is signing the note. Any other loyalty offers are off the table. This is a vehicle which starts at $67,500 for single-motor variant and $73,400 for a dual-motor model before any of the aforementioned incentives.

As a refresher, the single-motor models are good for 299 horsepower and 361 lb-ft of torque and are rear-wheel drive. Examples with motors on both axles have all-wheel drive and can belt out 489 horses and 620 lb-ft of twist. Seems like a reasonable upgrade for the six grand walk. Anyone splashing out a further $6,000 will get 517 all-electric ponies and 671 torques. The EPA estimates driving range on a fully charged battery is 350 / 315 / 279 miles for that trim of trims, respectively.
It is worth noting that Polestar just went hat in hand to creditors for a $450 million loan in a “bid to bolster business,” according to a report from Reuters. The brand, backed by Geely out of China, has delayed the release of its fourth quarter results this March.
