Oral Antibiotics and Cutaneous Adverse Drug Reactions

To the Editor A recent study of administrative health databases indicated that patients who were prescribed sulfonamides or cephalosporins were more likely to visit emergency departments or be hospitalized due to serious cutaneous adverse drug reactions (cADRs) than those who were prescribed other groups of antibiotics. Such databases represent a valuable source of data, but applying them to the investigation of drug-induced hypersensitivity reactions is challenging.
