Norton – Making History Through Innovative Abrasives
Norton, Abrasives
The unique patented geometry and tough micro-
structure of RazorStar discs enable the grain to
stay sharp as new cutting points are exposed
when the grain fractures. RazorStar™ abrasive
products also feature a very high concentration of
grains that are oriented in an upright position, so
the abrasives are ready to cut and aggressively
perform at their sharpest point.

Today Norton offers the widest portfolio of innovative grinding, cutting, blending, finishing, and polishing solutions for all markets, materials, and applications. Using advanced and affordable technology, Norton brings to market the right abrasives for a broad range of applications from consumer projects to metal fabrication to high precision aerospace parts, medical devices, and complex production operations.

Consider some of the groundbreaking technologies Norton has brought to market:

  • Anti-loading – To keep swarf away from your workpiece and extend abrasives life, Norton has introduced two anti-loading innovations. First, No-Fil® stearate coating is applied to paper-backed products to draw particles away from the surface. Second, the Multi-Air Cyclonic® pattern offers a patented, laser-cut design that filters dust away from surface work areas.
  • Agglomerated AO grain – Norton’s Vortex® line of abrasives has a high-performing, patented agglomerated aluminum oxide (AO) grain that provides the cutting power of a coarser grit with the finish of a finer grit. This is a smear-free, non-woven abrasive specially engineered for fast cutting and long life. It is Clean Bond®, an advanced resin bonding system that Norton developed, that eliminates smearing. Clean Bond increases the life of the non-woven abrasive and shedding is reduced, resulting in longer life with less downtime and fewer change-outs of the abrasive disc or belt.
  • Engineered Shaped Ceramic Grain – Designed for medium to high-pressure metal removal in the toughest grinding applications, Norton RazorStar® discs and belts feature 100% engineered shaped ceramic grain. A unique combination of razor-sharp grains with a supersized grinding aid helps to significantly reduce heat generation for cooler cuts and longer life on a range of materials such as carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, nickel alloys and other hard-to-grind metals. These abrasives are setting a higher standard in grinding productivity, speed, and life.

The Bigger Picture

Norton was already a world leader in abrasives when it joined the global Saint-Gobain family in 1990. Following Saint-Gobain’s mission for “Making the World a Better Home,” Norton is delivering choices that matter to your workforce and bottom line. This is done by continually looking for ways to improve grinding conditions by reducing dust and noise, and better ergonomics for worker comfort. Norton also looks for ways to reduce total costs by increasing abrasive durability and improving grinding performance quality.

Backing up all Norton products are world-class services. You can rely on Norton to help you with its full team of sales and technical experts, and customer service who quickly respond to your questions about which product is right for your application, order status, and how to safely use Norton abrasive products. In addition, Norton helps you determine custom solutions with made-to-order products built to unique specifications. If you are looking for an automation solution or want to test a grinding process, Norton also offers the expertise of its Abrasive Process Solutions (APS) team and lab at its comprehensive Higgins Grinding Technology Research Center in Northborough, Massachusetts.
