New Ford Service Pays Truck Owners' Insurance Deductibles After a Theft

Having your car stolen can ruin almost anyone’s day, but Ford recently announced a program that could soften the blow if a thief makes off with an F-Series truck. The automaker said it would write a check to cover part of owners’ insurance deductibles if the vehicle can’t be found or if it was damaged during the theft.

The new Ford Security Package comes with a potential deductible reimbursement of up to $2,500 and is available for 2024 and 2025 F-150 and Super Duty trucks. Ford includes a one-year trial with the trucks, after which the service costs $7.99, and it’s worth noting that the program is only available in 40 states.

In addition to the payments, subscribers also receive a starter inhibitor feature that prevents the trucks from being started, even with a key. The FordPass app gives users a 12-digit code that can be entered in the infotainment system to lock down the vehicle, though the F-150 Lightning is missing the tech. Ford supports owners with a 24/7 helpline and can help reach law enforcement or other emergency first responders.

These features should help Ford trucks move down the list of the most-stolen vehicles, where it has held a strong presence for years. Several Hyundai and Kia models also made the list, thanks to their lack of modern immobilizer tech, and Hellcat models remain a popular target for thieves.
