Morrisons trials exclusive discounts for the disabled community

Morrisons has teamed up with the discount platform Purpl to offer exclusive savings for disabled shoppers in the UK.

The supermarket will give disabled customers 10% off when they spend £25 or more on groceries online at Morrisons.com.

To access the discount, customers must sign up for Purpl’s free platform and verify their disability status using accepted documentation, such as PIP, DLA, Blue Badge, Disabled Bus Pass, Disabled Persons Railcard, or Access Card.

Once verified, members will receive a discount code, which can be used at the checkout for online orders.

The move aims to provide further support to the 16.1m disabled people in the UK, offering them a chance to save on essential grocery shopping.

With the average UK family spending £117 per week on groceries, disabled households could save around £11.70 per week, £46.40 per month, or £556.80 annually through the 10% discount.

The partnership with Purpl will begin as a trial to see how it benefits the disabled community across the UK.

Customers can also use the discount with Morrisons’ More Card. After earning 5,000 More Card Points, they’ll receive a Morrisons Fiver, which can be used for future purchases online or in-store.

Morrisons director of online and ability lead Charlotte Exell said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Purpl to help make Morrisons more accessible to customers living with a disability.

“We know from listening to our disabled customers that they often face a number of additional living expenses and so this trial will help lower the cost of their grocery bills.”

Purpl founder Georgina Colman added: “I know first-hand that living with a disability can be expensive so I’m very pleased that we can help our members with something as essential as their weekly grocery shop.

“The process of getting dressed, going to a store, buying groceries, and taking them back home can take a lot of time and is often more expensive and physically straining for disabled people. By partnering with Morrisons, I hope we can make life easier and more affordable for the disabled community.”
