This year the Consorzio Tutela Vini Montecucco celebrates a quarter century since its foundation, with the Tuscan appellation toasting an increase in production.

In 2023,
Montecucco DOC celebrated 25 years since its creation with a vertical tasting hosted by Filippo Bartolotta at Vinitaly. Giovan Battista Basile, president of the consorzio, commented during the tasting that such a duration "is not a long time" for a wine, "but it is for a person".
Situated south of Montalcino, the region contains around 500 hectares under vine, planted mainly with Sangiovese, though other varieties such as Merlot and Vermentino are also cultivated.
2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Montecucco, which will be marked on Thursday 20 February at L'Altra Toscana 2025, held at Florence's Palazzo degli Affari. 33 labels from the appellation will be showcased, alongside other, perhaps lesser known Tuscan wine designations, such as Vin Santo di Carmignano and IGT Toscana.
Commenting on this week's tasting, Basile said: "L'Altra Toscana is a key event for us: an opportunity to tell our story to journalists and professionals, conveying the value and tradition of a territory that is still to be discovered. We present different vintages, chosen based on the stylistic features of each company and the great longevity of our wines, which allow us to offer labels on the market at the ideal stage of their evolution."
2024 production
Montecucco also has plenty to celebrate now that the dust has settled on the 2024 harvest.
According to figures provided by the consorzio, there was a 41% increase in grapes delivered to the cellar compared to 2023, with 2024's yield reaching 17,924 quintals (equalling 1,792,400 kilograms, or 1,792.4 tonnes).
Bottlings of DOC and DOCG wines were also up by 10% year-on-year, reaching around 720,000 75cl bottles.
Basile noted that these figures make for pleasing reading after some difficult recent vintages: "At last a year that lets us catch our breath after a series of complicated seasons and that fills us with satisfaction and optimism for the future of our denomination. Growth data confirm the value of our territory and the production choices of our companies, increasingly oriented towards quality and sustainability."
