MG S5 EV will arrive in spring as ZS EV replacement
New MG S5 EV is already on sale in China badged ES5. New crossover – being detailed in full tomorrow – is based on same platform as MG 4 electric hatchback The new MG S5 EV, the replacement for the MG ZS EV, will arrive in the Spring, MG UK has confirmed. The new electric crossover has already been revealed in the brand’s home market of China, where it is badged ES5. It is based on the same underpinnings as the MG 4 EV hatchback - parent company SAIC’s MSP – which makes it slightly longer (at 4480mm) and wider (1850mm) than the ZS EV. Full details on its European specifications will be released in the coming weeks, MG UK said. In China it is powered by the same 168bhp motor as the standard 4. Like that car, 201bhp Long Range and 241bhp Extended Range versions are also extended to be offered here. In China, three new CATL lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs are offered. These offer 264, 320, or 326 miles of range via China’s generous CLTC. Inside, there is a 10.25-inch instrument and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen. The cabin is a slight evolution of the one found in the ZS, with a greater number of premium materials used that, according to MG, will “raise the standards in the SUV segment”. The car claims a boot capacity of 462 litres. “The MGS5 EV has all the credentials to impress, a generously equipped and spacious SUV but with the all-electric performance that MG customers enjoy so much. In terms of cabin ambience and technology this model will offer a new and greatly enhanced MG experience.” The S5 EV is expected to be priced below £30,000. For reference, the 4 starts at £26,995, while the current ZS EV is £30,495
