A campaign to save a pub in Dorset has gone viral on social media, now seeing a global audience pledging donations.

The Elm Tree Inn, based in Langton Herring in Dorset closed in November 2023, since then, villagers have showcased its importance, with the campaign to save it now having global reach.
Videos for the crowdfunding campaign to retain the village pub have already amassed more than two mission TikTok views and have seen the
Friends of the Elm Tree Inn Instagram page gaining more than 19,000 followers.
Martin Pearson, of The Friends of The Elm Tree Inn, said: “From Australia to Newfoundland, Ukraine to South Africa, Singapore to Brazil, Hawaii to Hong Kong, and right across the UK, Europe and the US, people have been loving the sentiments and humour in our little videos and pledging donations.
We really do think we can save the Elm Tree Inn and run it as a community-owned pub at the heart of our rural Dorset village in Langton Herring.”
Pearson explained: “We are still amazed at the impact we have had and absolutely astounded by the love from Gen Z supporters and Boomers alike, and have already seen over £50,000 come in small donations and a similar amount in share purchases from over 2,000 local and international supporters.”
The latest video, conceived by local villager Sarah Warren, features a host of locals from the village, and a new angle on the history of the pub.
The videos can be viewed
here and the
donations page can be found on Crowdfunder for anyone looking to help. Additionally,
share purchases can also be made via the pub’s Crowdfunder page.
Pearson added: “We now need local businesses and individual supporters to buy shares, which are being issued for a minimum £200 to a maximum of £65,000 per individual or organisation. We would also welcome any donations in kind which would help us to raise further funds from our supporters. We would be very grateful for any type of support that anyone might be able to provide.”
The Friends of the Elm Tree Inn’s share offer, business plan and its key deliverables can all be viewed on the
pub ‘s campaign website.
